The Need for Training

Skyline photoMany Vocational Rehabilitation practitioners have not had the opportunity to receive specialized training and expertise required to help people who have psychiatric disabilities maximize the benefits of Vocational Rehabilitation services.

The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University has developed a one-year, competency-based Certificate Program to improve and enhance the Psychiatric Vocational Rehabilitation knowledge and skills of practicing Vocational Rehabilitation professionals.

Training starts in May, 2010 !

Who Is The Training For?

If you or your staff provide vocational services for people who have serious mental illnesses, and want to increase your knowledge and skills, this training may be for you!

Practitioners and administrators have come from the following types of agencies:

  • State and Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Employment Programs
  • Veteran's Administration
  • Clubhouses
  • Supported Education Programs
  • Day Programs
  • Residential Programs
  • Mental Health Agencies
  • And more!

The Certificate Program in Psychiatric Vocational Rehabilitation received the 2002 Rehabilitation Services Administration Commissioner's Award for Excellence in Education and Training.

Elements of the Program

  • Specialized Psychiatric Vocational Rehabilitation skills training
  • Continue to work while participating in this part-time one-year program
  • Practice skills with people in your agency caseload.
  • Earn up to 72 Professional Development Program hours. For more continuing education options, refer to the PDP home page.
  • Hours may be applied toward eligibility for USPRA (formerly IAPSRS) registry for Certified/Registered Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners (CPRP), Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling Certification (CRCC) for Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors and Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Work.
