Latino Provider Consumer training.

A culturally appropriate curriculum that responds to the growing urgency to engage more Spanish-speaking peers in the mental health and rehabilitation workforce is now available!

A collaboration of the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University, the Alameda County Behavioral Health Services, and The Consumer Organization and Networking Technical Assistance Center (CONTAC) has developed this training program which has three integrally connected, but independent elements. The first introduces rehabilitation and recovery skills; the second provides background information and a foundation for peer providers, while the third looks to enhance peer leadership skills. While each component is complete in and of itself and can be used individually, together, these three elements provide a comprehensive approach to peer provider training.

Entrecruzando nuestros caminos

The module “Entrecruzando nuestros caminos will teach Spanish-speaking peers about the process of recovery from a mental illness. It will orient peers to the process of rehabilitation and it will teach them how to effectively engage Latino consumers and their families in the rehabilitation process (Abriendo Caminos en tu vida). It will prepare peers to run recovery groups (Recuperando la Esperanza) and it will teach basic Recovery Inspiring skills that will enhance they work as peer providers.
