about Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation events and publications,
as well as general mental health and rehabilitation news. The

by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration and the National Institute
on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), Department
of Education.

SPRING WORKSHOP SERIES AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY
April 11-14, 2005

WORKSHOP: “Values Based Practice or Evidence Based Practice? Implementing
Both”
This
workshop will describe the concepts behind evidence and values
based practices, program dimensions necessary to incorporate
values based practices, and finally strategies for implementing
both. The workshop will end with time allocated for application
issues relevant to your individual program.

WORKSHOP: “What Professionals Need to Know About Families”
This
workshop presents a training curriculum developed by the
Massachusetts NAMI/Department of Mental Health Curriculum,
Training, and Practice Consortium that is designed to help
professionals better understand the experience of families
and the role of family members in rehabilitation and recovery.
Special emphasis is placed on how to work collaboratively with
family members to meet their particular needs and enhance
their coping skills. Presenters include LeRoy Spaniol, Leslee

WORKSHOP: “The Many Faces of Resilience”
This
workshop will discuss concepts of resilience and how such
ideas may change the understanding of human responses to
life’s serious challenges. Participants will work together
to create a new model for resilience from many different
angles. This workshop will re-energize you for the work to
help reclaim lives and provide very specific new knowledge
and hands-on strategies to accomplish this goal. Presenters

WORKSHOP: “Professionals and Consumer Organizations:
Friends
or Foes? Practical Steps to Develop Meaningful Partnerships”

workshop will attempt to break through the barriers of mutual
misunderstanding between mental health professionals and
consumer organizations and to develop frameworks through
which professionals and consumers can interact to their mutual
benefit. Presenters include Judi Chamberlin and Victoria

APPLICATIONS NO LONGER PUBLISHED IN FEDERAL REGISTER
The
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
(SAMHSA) announced a change in its practice of publishing
Notices of Funding Availability (NOFAs) and Requests for
applications (RFAs) in the Federal Register. Effective January
3, 2005, SAMHSA will only post NOFAs and RFAs on the SAMHSA
website at <http://www.samhsa.gov> and
at <http://www.Grants.gov>.
Single
source or limited competition announcements will continue to
be
published in the Federal Register. Copies of grant fund
application materials will continue to be available from SAMHSA’s
clearinghouses: the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug
Information (NCADI) at 1-800-729-6686, and the National Mental
Health Information Center at 1-800-789-2647.
