RESOURCE CENTER PRODUCES QUARTERLY MEMORANDUMS ON
DISCRIMINATION & STIGMA

The Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma
(ADS Center), a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services, provides resources, information and technical assistance about effective approaches to counter stigma and discrimination. The ADS Center also produces quarterly memorandums highlighting research, effective anti-stigma campaigns and information on the rights of people who have mental illnesses. The most recent memorandum addresses effective approaches in rural communities and is now available online at:

UPENN COLLABORATIVE ON COMMUNITY INTEGRATION LAUNCHES WEB SITE

The UPenn Collaborative, the Rehabilitation Research and
Training Center (RRTC) on community integration of individuals
with psychiatric disabilities, has launched a comprehensive
web site emphasizing resources to help consumers integrate more effectively into the community. The Collaborative is conducting research and training activities that focus on: the concept and history of community integration; employment; housing; education; citizenship; language and community integration; the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead decision; social roles; peer support; self-determination; stigma; and spirituality/religion. The Center offers a new set of Practitioner Tools entitled
“Achieving Valued Roles (Skills Version)” that can assist
individuals to assess and develop skills they need and want for

or social environments. These Practitioner Tools include activity
descriptions, protocols, examples, worksheets, and checklists for
practitioners to use to facilitate the process of Achieving
