World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation will hold their
8th World Congress at New York University Washington Square Campus,

NEW PDP ONLINE SEMINAR
The
Self-Paced Study branch of the Professional Development Program
(PDP) now offers PDP Online Seminars comprised of short topics
in psychiatric rehabilitation. Assessing Readiness is the first
available seminar in the skills of Psychiatric Rehabilitation
series. This seminar is designed to help participants acquire
the knowledge needed to perform the technical skills of Assessing
Readiness as well as the interpersonal skills related to the process
of rehabilitation. For more information about the Professional

ARTICLE DISCUSSES DISCLOSING A PSYCHIATRIC DISABILITY
IN THE WORKPLACE
"Patterns
and correlates of workplace disclosure among professionals and
managers with psychiatric conditions" was recently published
in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation. This article enhances
understanding of how disclosure is approached by professionals
and managers with psychiatric disabilities. Based on data collected
from 1997 to 1999, findings address the nature, circumstances
and attitudes towards disclosure among this population. You may

UIC SELF-DETERMINATION WORKSHOP TO FOCUS ON CULTURAL DIVERSITY
The
University of Illinois at Chicago National Research and Training
Center is hosting the workshop "Viewing Self-Determination
through the Lens of Culture: Understanding and Honoring Diversity
among People with Psychiatric Disabilities" as part of its
National Self-Determination Workshop Series. Nationally known
speakers, Ramiro Guevara and Linda Denson, will address barriers
to self-determination for consumers/survivors of color, and strategies
for helping people create meaningful lives within the context
of their cultural beliefs. Also hear more about how self-determination
concepts can be modified to be more relevant across cultures.
Session to be held in Chicago, Illinois, Friday, August 15, 2003.
