Anthony, W. A., Howell, J., et al. (1991). Researching the unresearchable! Psychosocial Rehabilitation Journal, 14(3), 1.
EXCERPT:
This is certainly the research decade in the psychosocial rehabilitation and community support field. More research, more rigorous research, and more outcome research, are and will continue to be the shibboleths of many meetings and conferences. However, the question must be asked as to whether or not everything in this field is researchable. Perhaps this is the time to reflect on what is not researchable. For this writer it is easy to pinpoint the most unresearchable topic. Whether or not people with severe mental illness should have the opportunity for community support and rehabilitation services is not researchable.
Anthony, W. A. and Unger, K. V. (1991). Supported education: An additional program resource for young adults with long term mental illness. Community Mental Health Journal 27(2), 145-156.
Young adults with long-term mental illness have provided a particular challenge to mental health programs. Supported education is designed to present young adults with a programming resource that is significantly different from most existing mental health and rehabilitation programs. Supported education is defined as postsecondary education in integrated educational systems. Alternative program models used to implement the concept are described, including self-contained classrooms, on-site support, and mobile support. Three young adults who have successfully experienced each of these program models discuss their experiences, and suggestions are presented for developing supported education programs.
