Applying for the Core

Beginning on AprilĀ 1, admitted students will be able to submit a request through this webpage, asking to have their place reserved in the fall semesterĀ first-year Core courses. Since students already accepted to Boston University have met the academic eligibility requirements for Core, this application serves more as an entrance interview for the Core program, giving us a chance to learn about you and your interests over the course of the summer.

Core seminars are most successful when all participants are actively committed to the larger enterprise of engaging with classic works and important ideas, in close conversation with faculty and fellow students. Therefore, we like to communicate with incoming students as early as possible, rather than getting to know you only in September when you arrive to campus. That way we can make sure Core is the right fit for you.

Interested in Core? Let us know!

Apply now and let us know that you’d like to make Core part of your BU program:

  • Let us know in about 250 words (two short paragraphs) why you feel that you are are right for Core, and why the Core program seems right for you. If you are an incoming transfer student, feel free to tell us about your previous coursework experience.
  • Please let us know from where in the world you are coming to Boston this fall.
  • Let us know if you have an idea now about what concentration you might declare for your major/minor. If you are undecided, you can leave this blank.
  • Enter your University ID number here, if you have been issued one already. It should begin with the letter "U", followed by 8 numerals. If you have not yet received your Terrier Card/UID, you can leave this field blank.
  • What weekend do you plan to attend the BU Summer Orientation program? (If you know; if you do not, you may leave this blank. If you have already gone through Orientation, please let us know which session you attended.)
