Guide to Boston

BU is in the heart of one of the greatest college towns in the country. With everything from museums and great food to Broadway shows and amazing shopping, Boston never leaves a student without something to do. In order to gain the full Boston University experience, one must take advantage of everything the city has to offer. This is not an exhaustive list, but one to help you on your way to creating a unique experience of your own. The Core Curriculum teaches us to explore knowledge, learn from the past, and seek Enlightenment, all things you can do in Boston!

Studying consumes so much time; why not be comfortable while doing it?

  • BU Beach: learn while tanning!
  • Mugar Library: surrounded by books and other studious folks, it’s hard not to concentrate.
  • Hillel House: one of the few study areas with A/C, a plasma screen TV, and panoramic views of the Charles River.
  • SMG Library: close to Starbucks!
  • Top Floor of Shelton Hall: a 360° view of the Boston skyline.
  • The GSU: where you can find food and study buddies

Museums

  • MFA: free with BU ID
  • Harvard’s Peabody Museum and Museum of Natural History
  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
    Museum of Science
  • Museum of Bad Art at the Dedham Community Theatre
  • John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
  • Old State House Museum

Fun Events!

  • Marathon Monday, third Monday in April: crowd the streets of Boston while watching one of the country’s greatest marathons.
  • Boston Massacre Reenactment-March 5th : every year the Boston Historical Society reenacts the Boston Massacre in front of the Old State House.

Food!
With a place to eat on practically every street you’ll never never go hungry:

  • American: Uburger, Spike’s Hot Dogs, Cheesecake Factory, Stephanie’s on Newbury
  • Cafés: Trident Booksellers, Espresso Royale, Angora Café, The Other Side
  • Indian: Bhindi Bazaar, India Quality, Kashmir, India Samraat
  • Italian: go to the North End!

What to do?
Although some of these activities require you to plan ahead, they are what makes Boston a memorable city and a staple to your college experience:

  • Attend a Red Sox game
  • See a play, opera, or musical in Boston’s theater district
  • Attend lectures on any subject at any university or museum
  • Take a Duck Tour
  • Stroll through the Boston Common and Public Garden
  • Ice skate on the Frog Pond
  • Walk around Beacon Hill and see the original site of BU
  • Attend a concert at Agganis Arena
  • Go to every BU Hockey Game you can at Agganis Arena!
  • Shop on Newbury Street, the Pru, and Copley Place
  • Attend the Red Stone Film Festival at Boston University
  • Visit your professors! They don’t bite. DI
