Emmanuel Music presents Bach's St. Matthew Passion. 7:30 PM. Performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of Emmanuel Music, conducted by Acting Artistic Director John Harbison, with the Boston Children's Chorus. Soloists are Charles Blandy and Donald Wilkinson.

  7 Core presents Trouble the Water, 2009 nominee for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. 7 PM in SMG Room 105 , 595 Commonwealth Avenue. This event will particularly address the ways in which the people of New Orleans, and particularly the couple featured in the film, understood and coped with Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath through the lens of scripture. Co-sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Teaching Professorship of the Core Curriculum, the Center for Practical Theology, and Marsh Chapel.

Home, Freedom, and Democracy in South Africa by Njabulo Ndebele. The author and educator reflects on the changing experience of country as home since the end of apartheid, and at a time when the politics of liberation seem to have run aground. With a reading from his novel, The Cry of Winnie Mandela. At the BU Castle. 5 PM, free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Core Current Affairs presents Rory Stewart, Chief Executive of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Afghanistan. Stewart will speak on his memoir, The Places In Between, a New York Times best seller chronicling his 2002 walk across Afghanistan following the collapse of Taliban rule. 5:00 PM at 225 Bay State Road, free and open to the public.
