FileMaker Database Consultation
Course fmconsult
We want to help you either get off to a good start (if you are new to FileMaker) or to convert your existing database to the latest version and understand how much better your database could be. FileMaker is a powerful software application that can do just about anything you need it to do. If you are just limping along with your good-enough database, it's time to give it a thorough check-up.
This is not really a tutorial with a specific
meeting time -- that's just a way to advertise this service and
provide better hands-on training. If you are a member
of the Boston University community and you would like to set
up a consultation meeting, please send mail directly
to pctrain@bu.edu.
Do I have to attend a FileMaker tutorial first?: It would be a good idea to take a class, or at least to download and review the related tutorial handouts. You can also do self-paced tutorials for FileMaker.
What's the first step?: Our staff consultant will meet with you, your existing database (if you have one) and your list of goals. You can send a database (via e-mail attachment) before the meeting or bring it on a USB drive or notebook computer. (If you need to use "sample" data, that's fine -- just make sure there's enough of it for reports and other things to work properly.)
Benefits: Through this process you might:
- begin to use the newer versions of FileMaker Pro
- convert your multi-file relationships into a model that uses one file with multiple tables
- clean house! This is a great opportunity to get rid of layouts, fields, scripts etc. that you no longer use.
- figure out how to do the things you always wanted to do
- learn how to properly secure and network your database
Meeting Place: 100 Cummington Street
Registration: Write directly to pctrain@bu.edu.
