Kate Sawatzki completed her PhD in Microbiology in 2017 and is currently working on completing publications in preparation for post-doctoral work. Her project focused on understanding the dynamics of antibody-producing B cell clonal populations after vaccination, with particular emphasis on understanding the dynamics of somatic hypermutation, selection, and affinity. Her work involved both bench and computational science, linking wet lab with Big Data. She received her undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington (BS, Microbiology; BA, English), and has a background in genetics and genomics. Her favorite dinosaur is the ankylosaurus.
