Since 1937, Sargent College has placed student therapists, dietitians, counselors, and health researchers in internship programs throughout the greater Boston area.

In 1999, 245 students each contributed forty hours a week, from three to six months, in area hospitals, rehabilitation centers, veterans associations, and other treatment facilities.

A doctoral candidate teaches resistance exercise to a senior at the Brookline Council for Aging as part of "A Matter of Balance." The program was developed by the University's Center for the Enhancement of Late-Life Function.

Occupational therapy students run A Matter of Balance, an eight-session intervention program designed to help older people reduce the risk of fall-related injury and decrease their fear of falling. Introduced in 1998 by the Brookline Department of Public Health, the program is offered twice a year at a senior housing residence. Originally developed by Sargent's Center for the Enhancement of Late-Life Function, the program has been successfully implemented by senior centers, hospitals, and home care agencies.

A clinical services unit of Sargent College, Boston University Rehabilitation Services at 930 Commonwealth Avenue, offers the community full outpatient services in audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and speech-language pathology.
