The
Office of Government and Community Affairs is the main administrative
group linking the University to the community. It recognizes
that Boston University has an impact on its neighbors and works
to ensure that this impact is positive. The office maintains
regular contact with residents and with local and state leaders,
keeping them informed about campus-development plans, evolving
programs, and University activities.
The
director of state relations represents the University's interests
before the legislature, the Board of Higher Education, and
the executive branch of state government. The director of
city relations works with the Mayor's Office, the City Council,
and city agencies.
The
director of community relations and the community relations
liaison keep communication open between the University and
its neighbors, working closely with residents and officials
in Boston and Brookline. They respond to inquiries, coordinate
special activities with local business associations, and organize
efforts to meet community needs.
Since
1984, the Boston University Community Task Force has been
an ongoing forum for University and local representatives
to discuss community issues. University administrators, planners,
and consultants also meet regularly with representatives of
neighboring community organizations.
