In
1986, Boston University, in cooperation with Community Task
Force representatives and city agencies, was the first Boston-area
institution to develop a Master Plan approved by the Boston
Redevelopment Authority. The ten-year plan for the Charles
River Campus included enrollment projections; analyzed housing,
parking, academic, and recreational needs; and studied potential
sites to accommodate the University's changing needs. The
University's second Master Plan, encompassed the period from
1997-2002. The current seven-year Master Plan for 2003-2010,
was appproved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority in 2003
after a lengthy review process by the City of Boston and the
Boston University Community Task Force.

Boston
University vigilantly enforces an Alcohol Policy that exceeds
the requirements of the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Students under twenty-one years of age may not possess or
consume alcoholic beverages, and the amount of alcohol students
twenty-one years of age and older may keep in the residences
is strictly limited. The University does not permit beer kegs
in the residences and strictly monitors off-campus parties.
Violations of the Alcohol Policy, abuse of alcohol, or other
infringements of the Code of Student Responsibilities may
result in sanctions such as removal from University housing,
suspension, and expulsion.
Administrators
are also responsive to neighborhood concerns about student
behavior off campus, and the director of community relations
accompanies the Boston and Brookline police on designated
weekends, through the Ride Along Program.
