Faculty Information

All full-time faculty are invited to participate in individual school/college convocation ceremonies and the All-University Commencement on Sunday, May 17 at 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field.

Academic Dress

If you choose to participate in academic ceremonies, academic dress is required. You can rent caps, gowns, and hoods through Barnes & Noble @ BU if you don’t have your own. You should order rentals through your school/college Commencement Coordinator.

All orders are due to Barnes & Noble by February 27. Rental regalia will be delivered to the schools/colleges/departments between April 13 and May 1.

Rental robes are black, and the rental caps are the octagonal tams also worn by BU doctoral candidates. Through an intercollegiate agreement, Barnes & Noble can provide almost all hoods corresponding to your highest degree and awarding institution.

Custom Regalia
Barnes & Noble will also take orders for faculty who wish to purchase their own custom-made academic dress. The deadline for orders to guarantee delivery in time for Commencement is March 6. For more information about custom-made academic dress, contact Barnes & Noble at 617-267-8484.

Commencement Weekend Parking

The majority of University parking lots will be open on Commencement Weekend.  Parking lot assignments for all major Commencement Weekend events will be available by mid-April. Faculty and staff with valid parking permits will be sent an email containing additional parking information after that date.

Alternate parking locations for faculty and staff use throughout Commencement Weekend will be announced in mid-April. Whenever possible, these alternative locations should be used in order to allow our graduates and their families to park in locations convenient to the commencement and convocation venues.

Throughout the weekend, the University will provide convenient shuttle bus service along Commonwealth Avenue. Maps showing the designated bus stops and parking locations will also be available by mid-April.
