Speakers & Honorees
As is Boston University’s tradition, the names of the Commencement Speaker and honored guests were announced on Friday, May 3 during the annual Senior Breakfast.
Wendy Kopp, founder and Chair of the Board of Teach For America, will deliver the University’s 140th Commencement Address. Peter Weaver, retired Resident Bishop for the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church and former Boston University Trustee, will speak at the Baccalaureate Service.
Others who will receive honorary degrees are: Robert Langer, a David H. Koch Institute Professor at M.I.T., engineer, and inventor; and Morgan Freeman, acclaimed actor, film director, producer, and narrator. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will also be honored during the Commencement Exercises.

Fun Facts about BU Commencement...
Scarlet and White were chosen as the University’s colors in 1877 by the first graduating class of then College of Liberal Arts (now Arts & Sciences). It would be almost 90 years before the scarlet gowns became part of the University’s academic dress.
