Caps, Gowns & Announcements
Everyone who participates in an academic ceremony on Commencement Day is required to wear a cap and gown as approved by the University. Academic dress will be available via Herff Jones and Barnes & Noble at Boston University.
NEW THIS YEAR: online orders can be placed for home delivery of your purchased bachelor’s or master’s regalia beginning January 1, 2012. The deadline to place orders for delivery is March 15. Online orders, including all rental doctoral regalia, can also be placed specifying in-store pick-up at Barnes & Noble at BU. Pick-up orders can be placed online from January 1 until March 15 and may be picked up at Barnes & Noble beginning April 22. Degree candidates who do not place an online order for delivery or in-store pick-up must visit Barnes & Noble at Boston University, beginning April 30, to purchase their academic regalia or rent for doctoral candidates. Please be advised that in order to ensure that you have the correct academic dress for your ceremony with respect to color and size, you should plan to pick up any online regalia order or visit the bookstore to purchase (or rent if a doctoral candidate) your regalia no later than May 11. Candidates for the bachelor’s or master’s degree must purchase keepsake academic dress. The cost for a complete bachelor’s package, including gown, cap, tassel, is $78; the complete master’s package is $113. As part of all academic dress packages, each graduate will receive ten printed general announcements of the Commencement Exercises at Nickerson Field; additional announcements are available for purchase. These announcements do not limit the number of guests you may bring to the Nickerson Field ceremony.
For those degree candidates who purchase academic dress online before March 15, Barnes & Noble at Boston University will discount the package price by $10.
Doctoral candidates renting academic dress can place orders online through March 15, 2012 for in-store pick-up which begins on April 22. Home delivery is not available for doctoral rental packages. The complete doctoral package if ordered online prior to March 15 is $85. For those who place their orders in the Bookstore starting on April 30, the rental price will be $95. Please note that all rentals must be returned prior to May 24 to avoid late charges, and transcripts will be withheld by the University from any student failing to return rental items.
Graduates may purchase custom-made regalia by making an appointment for a fitting with the General Merchandise Department at Barnes & Noble at Boston University. To ensure that your academic dress arrives by Commencement, orders for custom-made regalia must be placed by March 4, 2012.
