Alan M. Leventhal

Alan M. Leventhal is the chairman and chief executive officer of Beacon Capital Partners, an international real estate investment company headquartered in Boston. Previously, Mr. Leventhal served as president and chief executive officer of Beacon Properties Corporation, one of the largest real estate investment trusts in the United States.
Through his work, he has made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Boston and other cities around the nation. Beacon Capital and its predecessor companies have had a major impact in shaping the development and skyline of Boston. The firm is one of the leading worldwide real estate investment managers with a focus on knowledge-based cities. Mr. Leventhal received Ernst & Young’s New England Entrepreneur Award in 2004. He earned Realty Stock Review’s Outstanding CEO Award for 1996 and 1997, and the Commercial Property News Office Property Executive of the Year Award in 1996.
Mr. Leventhal has been a member of the Boston University Board of Trustees since 1995, serving as chair from 2003 to 2008. He led the Board during a period of transition in the University’s history, guiding the Board and the University toward greater openness and transparency in its governance. He and his wife, Sherry, have been exemplary supporters of the University through their personal philanthropy.
A graduate of Northwestern University and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, Mr. Leventhal is a life trustee of Northwestern University and a board member of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. He serves on the board of the Corporate Fund of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Board of Governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
