Academic Dress

This young girl is dressed up like her mother for commencementEveryone who participates in an academic ceremony on Commencement Day must wear a cap and gown of the appropriate color and style, as approved by the University. All graduates must pick up their caps and gowns before the day of the ceremony. Academic dress will be available at Barnes & Noble at Boston University beginning April 3 through May 20, 2007. The Cap & Gown Room will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from Noon to 6 p.m.

Candidates for bachelor's or master's degrees must purchase academic regalia.

Doctoral candidates may rent academic dress. The fees are for regalia picked up prior to May 1, 2007:

Bachelor's Basic Package - $75.00
Master's Basic Package - $103.00
Doctoral Rental Package - $85.00 (beginning April 23, 2007)

Note: Regalia picked up after May 1, 2007 incurs a $10 late fee. All packages include cap (or doctoral tam), gown, tassel, hood (masters/doctoral), and 10 announcements. Additional packages are available.

Doctoral Rentals require a $100 deposit. All rental regalia must be returned the day of the ceremony. Return locations will be posted at Barnes & Noble at Boston University. Deposits will be refunded when the regalia is returned. Transcripts will not be provided to any student failing to return rented items.

The Bookstore accepts cash, personal or traveler's checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and convenience points.

Checks should be made payable to Barnes & Noble at Boston University, and include the following information: name, telephone number, and Boston University ID number.

For an additional $10, the bookstore will take orders from April 3 through April 27 to ship caps and gowns inside the continental United States. Orders should include the following information: height, College or School, exact degree to be awarded, the school/college awarding the degree, and a daytime telephone number. Checks should be made payable to Barnes & Noble and include the following information: name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.

Students who wish may purchase custom-made regalia by making an appointment for a fitting with the Cap & Gown department. To insure that the regalia arrives by Commencement, orders must be placed by March 9, 2007.
