Prospective Students Prof. Fred Bayles will hold an information session about COM's Boston Statehouse Program for interested graduate students and seniors on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 213.
Statehouse students earn 12 credit hours covering state government and politics for Massachusetts daily newspapers and radio stations under the supervision of Prof. Bayles, a former national correspondent for The Associated Press and USA TODAY.
Students write an average of two to three stories a week for daily newspapers such as the Patriot Ledger of Quincy, the Lowell Sun, the Lawrence Eagle Tribune and a dozen other newspapers and radio stations. The program builds writing and reporting skills in a deadline environment and leaves students with an impressive portfolio of bylined work.
The program has served as a gateway for employment with member newspapers and led to jobs with newspapers around the country.
Prof. Bayles current and former students will be available to discuss the program. Refreshments will be served.
