About Sarah Dasher

Prior to BU

I have worked in corporate communications since 2004 across a variety of disciplines. I began in the nonprofit sector, and then moved over to financial services for eight years, before spending the last three in healthcare.

Why Public Relations

I studied journalism in undergrad and anticipated a career on the editorial side, but ended up following a path into PR as I have progressed from one job to the next. Now that I know what I like to do and am good at (I hope!), I want to go back and focus my studies on specifically honing those skills.
When I researched top PR programs to apply to, BU naturally made the list with its exceptional reputation. The urban location set amid a wide employer network in one of the world's best cities was also a draw. BU COM ultimately became my top choice after I visited campus. I was blown away by the caliber of the students, faculty, facilities, and meaningful integration with the alumni network.

Most Looking Forward To

I'm excited about expanding my personal and professional contacts. I'm nervous about some of the challenges ahead, but know that I grow the most when I'm willing to get uncomfortable.
I'm also looking forward to being able to eat hot buttered lobster (lobstah?) rolls and Johnny cakes at Neptune Oyster in the North End without having to get on a plane. I have been pathetically obsessed with this restaurant since first eating there in 2012.

After Graduation

Part of my drive to go to grad school is to uncover new opportunities. I'm open to staying on in Boston after graduation for the right fit, but could also see myself returning to Atlanta, where I've spent most of my career. I'm very curious about agency work. All of my exposure has been with in-house communications, outside of collaborating with agency professionals whose services we engaged ad hoc.

A Bit About Me

I love event planning and have been that way since I was a kid. I have always been the cruise director among my friends and coworkers. Whether it was being prom chairman, organizing group vacations, hosting large scale corporate events, or just having a few people over for dinner, I love to party! Sometimes, I think I get more enjoyment out of the planning than anything else. It's going to take some real creativity to figure out how to entertain in my very small Boston apartment. I'm counting on all the outgoing personalities you find in the communications arena to help me practice.
