The Great Debate: "Israeli – Palestinian Peace: Who Stands in the Way?”

  • Starts: 5:30 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2011
  • Ends: 8:30 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2011
The Great Debate is sponsored by Boston University’s College of Communication (COM) and modeled after the Cambridge and Oxford University Union Societies’ public discussions. The Great Debate brings together alumni, faculty and students in a lively but collegial forum to discuss great national and international issues. This will be the 29th in the series of Great Debates. Moderated by Journalism professor Robert Zelnick, the topic of the debate will be "Israeli – Palestinian Peace: Who Stands in the Way?” Professor Robert Lieber of Georgetown University, has been invited to make his second appearance in the debate, an honor infrequently bestowed but one that reflects his elevated standing among scholars who have followed the Arab Israeli conflict. On the other side of the debate, Hussein Ibish, a rising young intellectual and gifted spokesman for the Palestinian cause, is carefully followed by scholars and diplomats on both sides of the conflict for his reason, his moderation and his intellect. Additionally, the debate will feature Director of Research Publications for the Foundation for Middle East Peace, Geoffrey Aronson; Foreign Policy Institute Fellow at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Joshua Muravchik; COM Graduate Student Justin Bourke (’13); and COM graduate student Phillip Kisubika (’13).
