Description of Boston University's Washington Journalism Center

Boston University's Washington Journalism Center offers students the chance to spend a semester in Washington, D.C. meeting newsmakers, working in the bureaus of national news organizations, reporting on Congress and the federal government for New England news outlets and studying political reporting in the best political city in the world.

Through their work in the BU-Washington News Service, students serve as the Washington correspondents for New England newspapers, radio and television stations. The BU newsroom is located on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington in the Boston University Washington Center.

Students have the opportunity to do an internship in the DC bureaus of national news organizations such as the Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Newsday, National Public Radio and Fortune Magazine.

A course in political reporting is taught by Washington Journalism Center Director Linda Killian. Seminars and guest lectures by national journalists are also offered along with special events that bring Washington newsmakers into the classroom.

This extremely exciting new program puts journalism students at the heart of our nation's government in the city where national news is made every day.

In addition to providing specialized coverage for New England news clients, students have a chance to make valuable contacts at national news organizations with working journalists both on the job and in the classroom.
