
Tomorrow's Oceans agenda
On November 23 and 24, 2004, the Center for Science and Medical Journalism and the New England Aquarium hosted a two-day environmental writers' conference for scientists and journalists.
Saturday featured workshops at the New England aquarium, a special guided tour of the Aquarium's Living Links: Choices for Survival exhibit, a panel session to discuss the exhibit and a keynote address by Dr. Sylvia A. Earle, noted National Geographic explorer-in-residence and an expert on the technology of deep-sea research.
Sunday at Boston University consisted of panel workshops on the following themes:
Speakers included Syliva Earle, National Geographic's Explorer-in-Residence, Deborah Cramer, author of Great Waters, David Helvarg, author of The Blue Frontier, Sarah Giles, researcher at the Scripps Institue of Oceanography, Eurgene Linden, author of The Future in Plain Sight, and writer for TIME magazine, Les Kaufman, researcher at Boston University Marine Program, Carl Safina, scientist and author of The Blue Ocean, and James McCarthy, a Harvard-based researcher and scientist.
