Photojournalism students are strongly encouraged to pursue internships with news organizations and professional photographers. Boston is one of the most active media markets in the nation, with a host of daily, weekly, and monthly publications and fully staffed wire service bureaus.
The Washington DC internship program provides a unique opportunity to cover events in the nation’s capital for publications in the New England region and across the country, and serves as an excellent gateway to jobs in the profession. Faculty and staff are available to call on their professional relationships to help students secure internships that play a vital role in beginning a career in photojournalism.
Boston University students have served internships at a range of organizations, including The Boston Globe, The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Time, Newsday, the Poynter Institute, Improper Bostonian magazine, The Boston Phoenix, and the Harvard University news office. In addition, freelance photographers have hired students for internships during the academic year and for the summer.
