Business & Economic Journalism: Facilities

The College of Communication ensures not only that students will be trained by the best faculty, but also that they will have the latest technology at their fingertips - for example, computer-assisted reporting and courses on the Internet and website production.

PC Multimedia lab, Room 208

There are 27 Dell Precision WorkStation 330 computers, with Pentium 4 processors at 1.4 GHz, 256MB of RAM, CD-RW drives, FireWire cards, and Osprey-200 analog video cards. There are an additional 6 computers in the room which are Dell Precision Workstation 450 computers, with Pentium 4 processors at 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, CD-RW/DVD-R drives, and FireWire cards. The 28 computers all have the following software installed on them:

There are 22 Dell computers, with Pentium II 400 MHz processors, with the following software installed on them:

  • Windows 2000 Pro
  • AP NewsDesk 2000
  • Microsoft Frontpage 2000
  • Office 2000 Professional

In addition, the room has two HP LaserJet 4050TN printers. There is one scanning station with a Umax Astra 1220S scanner.

MAC Multimedia lab, Room 211

There are 23 Mac Pro 2.66GHz computers, with 23-inch Cinema Displays. They have following software installed on them:

There are 22 Gateway computers, with Pentium II 350 MHz processors, and 224 MB of RAM. There are also an additional 6 Dell Precision Workstation 450 computers with Pentium 2.0GHz Processors and 256MB of RAM. All 28 computers have the following software installed on them:

  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • AP NewsDesk 2000
  • Office 2000 Professional or Office XP Professional

In addition, the room has one HP LaserJet 4050N printer.

This is a journalism/news classroom for PC-compatible instruction. There are 20 Dell computers, with Pentium II 233 MHz processors, with the following software installed on them:

  • Windows 2000 Pro
  • AP ENPS
  • Office 2000

In addition, the room has two HP LaserJet 4000 printers.

Photo Journalism Lab, Room B29

New digital photo lab, COM B-29 ­ 15 work stations, Apple Mac G-4 computers, Nikon and Canon film scanners, Epson printers. Overhead digital projection for instruction.

Classroom, COM B-25 ­ space for 20 students.

Traditional darkroom and photo lab, COM B-38 ­ fully outfitted print room with 21 enlarging stations; smaller print room for advanced student use, 6 enlarging stations; film developing room.

Beebe Library

The Beebe Library, located in the College of Communication, is stocked with all the important national and international publications. Journalism students have the opportunity to contribute to a number of student magazines, other publications, and the award-winning daily student newspaper, the Daily Free Press.
