The Broadcast Journalism Program is equipped with two modern broadcast studios where student-anchors present newscasts, news magazines, and creative television programs. One studio is set up for news production, complete with digital editing suites. Participation in BUTV, our in-house television production company, is encouraged. BUTV produces a wide range of television shows that air on local cable networks.
Students learn how to operate state-of-the-art studio cameras, teleprompters, audio board, switchers and playback decks.
The radio facility features the latest in digital editing and audio equipment and is home to WTBU (89.3 FM/640 AM), a student-run radio station that airs regular newscasts, talk shows, and a wide variety of music.
BU undergraduates and graduate students direct productions from two separate control booths and write and produce scripts using a "paperless" computerized newsroom.
Students learn digital and linear video editing in eighteen post-production editing suites and two graphic stations containing the editing and graphic software used in the market place.
BU students also learn how to produce news packages, documentaries and programming using field equipment including 16 Sony ENG cameras and eighteen digital cameras as well as lighting kits, audio gear standard in field production. Most cameras are less than two years old.
