The Summer Film/TV Internship Program allows registered students from BU as well as other colleges and universities the opportunity to earn academic credit for an internship. The program is offered during both 6-week summer sessions. For summer 2003 the first summer session runs from May 21st - July 1st. The second summer session runs from July 7th - August 15th.
Students from other programs within BU and guest students from other universities are welcome to participate in the summer internship program with prior approval from the Director of Internships. Please contact Professor Cathy Perron at cperron@bu.edu. Apply early (January-March) as competitive internships fill up VERY quickly. You will need to submit a personal statement outlining the type of internship in which you are interested, and all academic transcripts to Professor Perron for her approval. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept rising freshmen into the summer program. You must be at least a rising sophomore (32 earned academic credits) to participate in the internship program. All non BU Film and Television majors must check with their academic advisors to see how internship credits may be used in their programs.
Finding the right internship mimics the job application process. After approval, you should register for the summer course and then begin researching companies at which you may be interested in working. This research is done in the internship office and online. It must be completed BEFORE the start of the summer program, and ideally should happen during January, February and March.
Furthermore, you should use this time to prepare a resume. You should visit COM Career Services for a resume and/or cover letter consultation. This is highly recommended for students who are putting together a resume for the first time.
Then you apply directly to the companies of your choice, schedule interviews, and decide which internship you will use.
Once you have been accepted for an internship, you must complete the necessary paperwork with your internship supervisor and deliver it to the Director of Internships in COM Room 304.
You are required to participate fully in the internship to earn academic credit. You are expected to write a report at the conclusion of their internship. The Director of Internships will monitor your progress throughout the internship through contact with your supervisor. Your internship supervisor will also complete an evaluation of you. This is a Pass/Fail course.
