Boston University is pleased to announce the presentation of this year’s Redstone Film Festival at the Tsai Performance Center on Wednesday, February 13th. Sponsored by Sumner Redstone, Chairman of VIACOM, the festival is recognized as one of New England’s premier film venues featuring short films written and directed by graduate and undergraduate filmmakers from the University’s College of Communication.
Winners of the festival are chosen by a panel of prominent professionals selected from throughout the film industry. Monetary cash prizes are given to first, second and third place finishers. In addition to the short film awards, the judges will announce the winner of the 2008 Fleder-Rosenberg short screenplay contest.
In March the festival travels to Los Angeles where students will showcase their films in front of an additional panel of judges for cash and prizes.
Over the years, Redstone winners (and finalists) have turned out to be some of Boston’s most successful Directors, Screenwriters and Producers. Many of these same films have been nominated and won in film festivals all around the world. Two have even earned Academy Award nominations. Redstone winners include such big names as Gary Fleder ("Runaway Jury"), Joe Roth ("Christmas With the Cranks"), Director Lauren Ivy Chiong ("Testament") Producer Richard Gladstein ("Finding Neverland", "Cider House Rules"), Producer/Director Robert Patton-Spruill ("Squeeze", "Body Count"), Screenwriters Scott Rosenberg ("Con Air", "Beautiful Girls") and Steve Brill ("Mighty Ducks").
