A Summer with Simply Ming
School: Boston University, College of Communication, Film and Television Department
Description: A comprehensive film and television program with liberal arts requirements. Approximately 350 students (graduate and undergraduate) with tracks in film or television. Courses include film studies to screenwriting to lighting to television production to multimedia and more.
Special Programs: The Film and Television Department features a semester in Los Angeles, a college-based cable TV channel (BUTV 10), and a weekly series of special guests, screenings and lectures (BU Cinematheque).
Internships: Students are available for a wide range of two and four credit internships. The Fall and Spring semesters are typically 13 or 14 weeks and commence in September and January, respectively. Summer internships are about 10-12 weeks and usually begin in late May or early June. Two credit internships correspond to 8-10 hours per week of work, while four credit internships correspond to about 20 hours of work per week. Internships are intended as professional experiences that enhance the student’s education. While it is understood that interns perform a variety of tasks, the internship must contain valuable professional experience for the student. See “spot work” below if your requirements do not meet the criteria for a credit-appropriate internship.
Spot Work: The Film and Television Department has many talented students who are available for work that does not rise to the level of an official internship. If your company or organization needs students for a short-term project, you may contact us to see if students are available for this kind of work. We will do our best to meet your needs, but please note we consider the educational value of any request to students a priority and might not be able to accommodate every job or internship offer.
Contact: Please contact Professor Cathy Perron, Director of Internships to inquire about internships or short-term project work, email: cperron@bu.edu. Include a one-sheet description of the project or internship, skills you’d like the intern to have, length/hours of internship, location /proximity to public transportation and contact information . We will post the information to our database and interested students will contact you directly.
