The COM Writing Center employs staff with a wide range of writing and teaching experience, and from a variety of majors in COM graduate programs.

Hillary Hoffman (Science and Medical Journalism)Hillary received her B.A. in chemistry from Amherst College and her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. While living in the Czech Republic, Hillary also obtained a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate and worked as a manuscript editor for Czech scientists. This past summer, she interned at Harvard Health Publications. |

James Robinson (Print Journalism)James has an honors degree in media studies and political science from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. He wrote for and edited the student magazine Salient. He has been a freelance journalist for a number of publications in New Zealand, writing for the Lumiere Arts Reader, Werewolf, New Zealand Listener and FishHead. James worked as a media analyst the past two years, writing business stories. This summer, James wrote freelance news and features for the Cambridge weekly, and covered some New Zealand diplomatic events at the U.N. and in Washington, D.C. |

Jenny Sia (ESL Specialist)Jenny has a doctorate in second language acquisition from the University of London, as well as a TESOL M.Ed. and a B.A. in linguistics from BU. She has taught academic writing at pre-university, undergraduate and graduate levels, largely for non-native speakers, both in the US and the UK. She is currently teaching in the CAS Writing Program and is the second language specialist for an online writing |

Silviya Krasteva (Advertising)Silviya has a B.A. in journalism and mass communication from American University in Bulgaria, as well as a B.A. in advertising from New Bulgarian University. Silviya has founded a student newspaper, taught SAT prep courses, interned at Leo Burnett and written for Rolling Stone’s Bulgarian edition. She currently contributes to the Kosovo2.0 blog. |

Mike Callahan (Film Production)Mike graduated from Saint Louis University, with a B.A. in biology. He has worked for Gante Films, a film studio in Chicago, as well as served as an RA while in college. Mike is an active competitor in road and cyclocross biking. |

Laura Jennings (Film Production)Laura earned a B.F.A. in creative writing at the University of Maine-Farmington. She has worked as an ESL tutor in France, aiding students who intended to study abroad. Laura has also been a teaching assistant for poetry workshops. |

Joe Piergrossi (Science and Medical Journalism)Joe graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in biology and an A.B. in anthropology. While there he wrote for the student newspaper. Joe then earned an M.Ed. in science education, and taught high school science in Georgia before coming to Boston. |

Elisabeth Stevens (Media Ventures)Elisabeth earned a B.A. in public administration from Auburn University’s honors program. At Auburn, she served as an NCAA tutor for student athletes. She has also been a lead writing instructor and training specialist for the Alabama high school graduation exam. |

Diana Tan (Mass Communication Studies)Diana has a B.A. in life science from the National University of Singapore. Since graduation, she has worked as an account executive for Credit Suisse, MediaCorp and 3M, where she oversaw national marketing campaigns and brand management in Asia. She also has experience tutoring middle/high school students in their writing. She has lived in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore. |

Colleen Flynn (Public Relations)Colleen earned dual degrees in English and Spanish from Providence College. While there she wrote for the student newspaper and a variety of print and online magazines. Before coming to BU, Colleen was a communications and PR manager for LIFT, a national anti-poverty nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. |
