Writing in the Works
The text for CO201, Writing in the Works, was written by College of Communication Professors Susan Blau and Kathryn Burak, who developed the book specifically for writers whose goal is to reach out to readers. Governed by a “real-world” writing philosophy, the textbook focuses on writing for a variety of publications—including online forms such as blogs and news sites, print publications, and visual formats such as public service announcements.
Now in its third edition, Professors Blau and Burak have updated the text with the changing publication platforms their students, and real-world writers, now find available to them. Writing in the Works is an across-the-communications-curriculum text—with writing experiences ranging from journalism through public relations and advertising genres; examples in the text draw from current writing situations and include many examples of BU student writing. Using student writing from BU not only makes good sense for our current students, but also allows us to celebrate the achievements of past 201 students.
In addition to Writing in the Works, C0201 offers many other writing resources to help students improve their work. Visit the Writing Program’s resources page.
