As a special projects producer, Professor Waller produced over 10 documentaries and specials for WBZ-TV, then the NBC affiliate in Boston. Her first independent production, Small Justice, Little Justice in America's Family Courts, won the Excellence in Media Award from the 8th International Conference on Family Violence, the “Best Social Documentary” from the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, and was an award winner at the Key West Indie Film Fest. In addition, Small Justice was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and at the NOW National Conference.

Garland is also the co-founder and co-creator of The Lia Project LLC, a major entertainment and educational initiative designed to inspire and support girls & minorities to pursue studies and careers in science and technology (www.liaonline.com). The LIA Project, a partnership with Boston University and FableVision, will leverage the known mechanics of licensing, popular culture and entertainment to reach 8-12 year-old girls where they live, learn, and play.

She is an expert in the field of children's programming, having produced an award-winning series as well as specials that earned her several Action for Children's Television Awards. In addition, she has won numerous awards for her documentaries, including five New England Emmys, an Iris, and the Grand Prize at the Film and Television Festival of New York. She produced the 26-part series, Your Child 6 -12, as well as two Intimate Portraits for Lifetime Television.

Professor Waller teaches a course on children's television, Producing for Television, and is the creator of Hothouse Productions, student-run, client-driven production company. Past clients include the Boston's Children's Hospital, the Museum of Science, Troubadour Inc., and MIT's Racecar Engineers.
