- Ends: 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2013
Shyam Sundar PhD, a distinguished professor and the founder of the Media Effects Research Laboratory at Pennsylvania State University, is the guest speaker for the bi annual Dr. Melvin L. DeFleur Distinguished Lecture.
This talk will reveal the reasons why online interactivity is
so alluring, and discuss the various ways in which specific
features of media technology shape our psychology.
It will present empirical research demonstrating that
structural aspects of the interface not only engage us
and persuade us, but also provide autonomy, control,
identity, self-expression, sense of community and external
validation, leading to psychological empowerment and
motivation to act.
