The COM Connection
The COM Connection was created by COM Career Services to facilitate networking between Boston University’s College of Communication students and alumni. In an effort to ignite meaningful dialogue and create lasting relationships, the COM Connection is a three tiered program comprised of the COM Connection LinkedIn group, Mentoring Program and The Day-on-the-Job program.
The LinkedIn COM Connection Group is a social networking tool solely dedicated to the initiation and nurturing of Boston University College of Communication alumni/student relations. The Mentoring Program will be focused on consistent communication between students and interested alumni and is designed to promote personal and professional growth for all involved. COM alums who would like to participate will be linked with students whose interests mirror their own. Both the mentor and mentee will sign an agreement that outlines their expectations. The program is a year long commitment to monthly contact between the mentor and mentee. The mentor will assist the mentee in decision making processes and planning for the future.
The Day-on-the-Job will give participating alums the chance to impart wisdom to students curious about their field without extreme time commitments. Interested alumni will host a student for a day at their company so students can get an inside look at a particular industry. A large percentage of these students will be freshmen or sophomores who have yet to declare a major. After assessing a student’s interests and the alum’s needs, the COM Connection Assistant will decide the appropriate partnership. The experiences garnered from The Day-on-the-Job will help students choose a major they are passionate about and hopefully lead to a rewarding career.
