Research Interests

My main focus resides on defining whether distinct areas within the hippocampus (CA1, CA3, DG) and within the parahippocampal region (PER, POR, EC) support different aspects of recognition memory such as: recollection versus familiarity, encoding versus retrieval or spatial versus relational. To address those issues, I use behavioral, molecular, lesion techniques and genetically modified mice, and recently showed that both components of recognition memory, recollection and familiarity, are distinct processes and that familiarity is not supported by the hippocampus (Sauvage et al., Nature Neuroscience, 2008).
