Educational Needs Addressed: It is well-known that Type 2 Diabetes is on the verge of becoming an epidemic in the United States. To further complicate the treatment of this disease is an inadequate and decreasing number of endocrinologists. Experts suggest that the number of practicing endocrinologists accounts for less than 12% of the number of endocrinologists needed for proper treatment of diabetes, leaving the treatment and management of Type 2 Diabetes and all of its comorbidities to primary care clinicians. This Diabetes Preceptorship is designed to give you, the primary care clinician the hands-on training and confidence necessary to effectively treat your diabetic patients.

Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1) Recognize the multiple pathophysiologic components of Type 2 Diabetes
2) Develop strategies for assessment, treatment, and follow-up to minimize complications of Type 2 Diabetes
3) Evaluate and integrate evolving therapies into day-to-day clinical practice so that primary care physicians can take on a more prominent role in the management of Type 2 Diabetes
