Target Audience:
Clinicians and scientists interested in Cryptococcus and Cryptococcosis
Educational Needs Addressed:
Infections due to Cryptococcus cause significant health problems worldwide,
particularly in those individuals that have weakened immune systems. This
conference is an opportunity for scientists and clinicians to discuss
the latest advances in the ecology and molecular biology of the fungus,
the immunology of the host response to the fungus, and therapy for this
deadly disease.
Educational Objectives:
1) Understanding the protean manifestations of Cryptococcosis in
both immunocompromised and immonacompetent patients and the many therapeutic
options for treatment of Cryptococcosis.
2) Advanced knowledge of the epidemiology of Cryptococcosis and
the biology of Cyrptococcus, particularly on recent insights gained from
the genome sequencing project.
3) Familiarity with the host immune response to the fungus, both
in humans and in experimental animal models, and the mechanisms by which
fungal virulence factors operate.
