Given the evidence of delayed reading achievement of children living in poverty, the pediatric provider has a unique opportunity to help by making anticipatory guidance about language development and early literacy a part of all pediatric primary care.

> Course Objectives

Participants who successfully complete this educational program will be able to:

  • Summarize ROR strategies and explain the ROR model of literacy promotion.
  • Identify and recognize challenges that parents face when reading to their young children and describe pediatrician methods of approaching those challenges.
  • Determine appropriate books to be given to patients, and identify appropriate advice to convey to parents regarding the importance of reading aloud to young children.
