Undergraduate Internships & Fellowships

The Department of Classical Studies is committed to supporting our undergraduates in their academic and professional growth beyond the classroom. Our students have a track record of successful application to competitive internships in classics and related disciplines, and often pursue research through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at Boston University. The Department of Classical Studies and the Program in Modern Greek offer students opportunities for internships in and outside the Boston area.  Examples include internships at the Museum of Fine Arts and at the Greek Consulate in Boston, as well as the Lalaounis Jewelry Museum in Athens.

Annually, the CHS seeks interns to work at the CHS in Washington, DC on the Free First Thousand Years of Greek, a self-standing subset of the Open Greek and Latin Project. The work involves a range of activities, including scanning texts, verifying and correcting texts, and uploading corrected texts to a GitHub repository. All instruction is provided on site.

The goal of the Free First Thousand Years of Greek project is to make freely available the corpus of the first thousand years of Ancient Greek as attested in manuscripts. Greek America Foundation Service Learning Program
Service Learning is an initiative of the Greek America Foundation that aims to engage North American college students and young professionals in volunteer programs in Greece. Our program fulfills a dual purpose: students are immersed into contemporary Greek life while they simultaneously volunteer their time for important humanitarian causes and make a lasting impact. The inaugural program took place during the summer of 2017 in Athens, Greece.

Thanks to a partnership with the Hellenic American University, the Greek America Foundation is able to grant 3 college credits for participation in our service learning program for an extra fee of $360 total. Hellenic American University is accredited through the New England Commission on Higher Education and these credits are recognized by U.S. institutions of higher learning. Students are responsible for checking with their home institutions about transfer of credits.

Scholarships covering all program fees will be offered to approximately 16 students. Airfare to Greece is not covered by scholarship funds.
