manifesto

burn is a magazine of experimental undergraduate creative writing at boston university. burn may not have a long or prestigious history, but that isn't stopping us. the title 'burn' is based on the magazine 'fire!!' published during the harlem renaissance. just as that magazine, and the african american community of the period, were gaining a new and powerful voice, so are we trying to raise a new voice. our cry is one of change and experiment. our editors have tired of repetition in form, style, and content, and yearn for new and interesting ways of writing. look in most magazines or journals and all you'll find is the same repetition under a different title and name. the purpose of burn, our purpose, is to defy convention, to use the improper, to find new ways, and burn all the rest down.
