Atlantis Ascended
from Clarion #0 1998
(the issue entitled "?")
by
Ryan O'Connor

On the ocean floor are lurking,
Exiled and undetected,
Crags of coral yet upholding
Atlantis resurrected.

Egyptian priests,
Apparitions in blue;
All pulse has ceased,
Their vatic tread on cue.

Intentions, with force,
Seeping through political seas:
To dominate a course
East of the pillars of Hercules.

Atlantis surely
Gasped for breath
When Athens, early,
Arrived with Death.

Searing screams ripped
An island so worn;
Rippling plants slipped
Into ground freshly torn.

Spirally engulfed mass,
Drowned is that day:
Requiem aeternam,
Dona eis, Domine.
