Master of City Planning
I have chosen to study City Planning because of the magnitude of Haiti’s chronic environmental problems due to a lack of planning and an inadequate management of the territory. Shanty towns are erected in fragile areas all over the main cities, obstructing draining systems, augmenting pollution, and further exacerbating the national health plight. Forests have been destroyed for survival and energy purposes, while soil erosion and sedimentation have also ravaged most of the plains, therefore destroying the peasants’ economy.
This program gives me an opportunity to reconsider my priorities. I felt I can no longer ignore social demands, cities’ decay, and environmental and economic shortcomings. I know now that I should pay more attention to the Haitian constituency and public policy processes for promoting the well-being of my country.
