Eugene Benson is Legal Counsel and Services Program Director at Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE), where he represents and advises community groups and coalitions working to protect and improve the natural and built environment and public health in their communities. He also participates on boards and committees for ACE, including the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Alliance; Action for Regional Equity; Massachusetts Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Committee; Metropolitan Area Planning Council Metro Future and Equity Report Card Advisory Committees; Healthy Air Coalition; Transportation for Massachusetts; and Transportation for America Executive Committee.

Gene has chaired the Environmental Law Section of the Boston Bar Association as well as the Section’s Water Quality Committee and Pro Bono/Public Service Committee. He taught Environmental Justice Law as a Givelber Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Public Interest Law at Northeastern University School of Law. His writing includes the article, Commonwealth Makes Strides in Combating Environmental Injustice, but the Journey Has Just Begun, in the Massachusetts Bar Association Section Review 2006, and the chapter on Water Pollution Control in Massachusetts Environmental Law.

Gene’s professional interests in people, place, and equity extend to his volunteer time. He is currently Vice President of the Board of The Food Project and a former President of the Board of the Mystic River Watershed Association.
