Wave-Packet Interference in Vibrational Dynamics, State Reconstruction, and the Control of Excitation Transfer

This seminar will summarize recent theoretical studies on the reconstruction of time-dependent molecular states using the ultrafast spectroscopic method of wave-packet interferometry. Calculations illustrating the influence of vibrational wave packets in electronic excitation transfer will described, as will our current investigations of the external control of electronic energy transfer through the preparation and damping of coherent intramolecular vibrations. The development of mixed quantum-semiclassical methods for the simulation and interpretation of time-resolved optical signals from small molecules embedded in low-temperature crystals will be motivated and discussed.
