Abstract
This lecture is in the area of new synthetic methods and concerns the
development of reagents and catalysts that enable carbonyl umpolung. Our
laboratory has been particularly interested in addressing some unsolved
problems associated with classic acyl anion reactions such as the
benzoin condensation and the Stetter reaction. The lecture will detail
the development of acyl silanes as acyl donors and conjunctive reagents
for a variety of new stereoselective carbon-carbon bond constructions.
