Corey Stephenson named Sloan Research Fellow

This year the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awarded 118 fellowships, three to scientists at Boston University. One of the three is Corey Stephenson.

Elliott Solar Energy Conversion Research Receives Scialog Award

Sean Elliott has received a second Scialog Award from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. This very competitive award recognizes the highly innovative nature of his work and its potential to be transformative in solar energy conversion.

Faculty of 1000 highlights Allen Group Research

A recent publication in JACS by Karen Allen and her group, “Engineering Encodable Lanthanide-Binding Tags into Loop Regions of Proteins,” was evaluated by Professor Gottfried Otting in Faculty of 1000.

Corey Stephenson receives NSF CAREER award

The NSF CAREER program supports junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education, and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. This year, 2011, the NSF conferred one of these prestigious awards on Corey Stephenson.

Two Chemistry groups receive collaborative research travel grants from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund

The BWF uses Collaborative Research Travel Grants to facilitate biomedical research among laboratories in the US and abroad. This February, the Allen Group and the Liu Group each received one of these competitive awards.

Research of John Straub and collaborators at the University of Maryland featured in C&E News

Research reported in PNAS by John Straub and his collaborators at the University of Maryland on dry amyloid fibril assembly received notice in C&E News.

Stephenson Group receives 5-year, $1.7 million NIH R01 Award

Corey Stephenson and his group have received a 5-year, $1.7 million research award from NIH/NIGMS to develop novel catalytic approaches to the synthesis of alkaloid natural products.

Karen Allen and Adrian Whitty reach out to CAS alumni audience on drug discovery process

Karen Allen and Adrian Whitty gave a “Discoveries” talk to BU Alumni on December 1, 2010. Sponsored by the BU Alumni Association and CAS, the Discoveries lecture series taps the expertise of BU faculty to give alumni a deeper look into the world and their lives.

Moquist receives highly coveted Humboldt Fellowship

Phil Moquist (Schaus Group) received a Humboldt postdoctoral research fellowship to study in Germany with Professor Gerhard Erker at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet Muenster Organisch-Chemisches Institut in Muenster.

BUWIC joins women chemists from 37 countries in International Year of Chemistry Event

BUWIC “met” women chemists in Canada as part of an international event that connected scientists in 37 countries in cyber-space. The event, “Women Sharing a Chemical Moment in Time,” ushered in the 2011 IYC.
