The Laursen Fund is in honor of Professor Emeritus Richard Laursen, who retired in June 2009 after 43 years as a member of the Chemistry faculty. At his request, interest from the fund will be used to provide an annual summer stipend for a deserving undergraduate or graduate student. Professor Laursen will be part of the decision making process for disbursement of the resources.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 in capital.  We have raised just about $50,000 in the Laursen Fund.  Once we have raised $100,000, we will be able to provide an annual award in Professor Laursen’s name in perpetuity.

1.  How do I donate to the fund?
If you give on-line using the following link, there is a “Designation” text box where you can indicate that the gift is for Chemistry Department – Richard Laursen Fund.  The link can be found at:

2.  Do I need to give a large amount?
All contributions, no matter what the size, are encouraged and gratefully accepted.  The BU Development Office will acknowledge the gift and provide documentation for the giver’s tax purposes.

3.  Can my company make a matching gift?
Matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of a contribution.

4.  Is my contribution tax-deductible?  Will I get an acknowledgment of my gift?
Absolutely!  CAS will send an acknowledgment letter confirming your gift.
