Professor Corey Stephenson

Awarded annually since 1955, the Sloan Research Fellowships are given to early-career scientists and scholars in recognition of achievement and the potential to contribute substantially to their fields. This year the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation selected 118 outstanding researchers as recipients, three from Boston University.  One of the three is Professor Corey Stephenson, Chemistry.

Since joining our faculty in 2007, Professor Stephenson has established and leads one of the most active research groups in our Department. His research interests range from catalytic asymmetric methods development in organic chemistry to complex natural product synthesis.  Guiding his research has been his ability to identify important problems in organic chemistry and find creative approaches to solving them.

Alfred P. Sloan FoundationHis program aims to discover fundamentally new chemical reactions in photoredox catalysis, which will enable the synthesis of biologically active natural products implicated in cancer, infection, and cardiovascular disease. The high impact of his work has been recognized by an NIH RO1, an NSF CAREER Award, and  2010 Boehringer Ingelheim New Investigator Award.
