About
A Different September Foundation

A Different September Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Boston University/Chelsea Partnership, a comprehensive effort to reform public education in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and to create a national model of urban school reform. In 1989, the Chelsea School Committee invited Boston University to manage the entire Chelsea public school system. The Massachusetts Legislature passed the enabling legislation, and the University signed a contract giving it responsibility for the schools for ten years. In 1997, Boston University and the School Committee of Chelsea signed an agreement to extend the Partnership for five more years. In June 2002, the School Committee and the University agreed in principle to renew the Partnership for another five years, until June 2008, and that agreement was approved by the Massachusetts Legislature in September 2003.
